Letter: LA won’t ignore LV

Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 | 6:30 a.m.

As Ron Kantowski said in his Thursday column, "Las Vegas Dodgers" does have a nice ring to it.

From 1958 until 1971 I watched the Dodger kids come of age as Spokane Indians (although the nickname did not stop me from loving the Dodgers). The Dodgers have always been successful at refining skills at the AAA level to prepare their players for "The Show."

When the Padres/Stars arrived here in 1983 baseball fans used to go to the games. Back then the best of the Padre prospects passed through Las Vegas. What any good minor league team needs is a solid, loyal fan base, and to keep that at this level you can't let your best players miss the opportunity to hone their skills at the AAA level.

I'm overjoyed that the Dodgers are coming town, and I hope the magic is coming back to Cashman Field.
