Guinn denies Jones was offered a state job

Gov. Kenny Guinn has denied reports that people involved with his campaign offered a job to former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones if she stayed out of the 1998 governor's race.
Guinn, who was interviewed on the Las Vegas Sun's television news discussion show, "POV Vegas," on Las Vegas One Friday, said all of the people who worked with him on his campaign knew not to offer any kind of jobs before the election.
"I made it very clear to everybody that there should be no talk about anybody having any kind of opportunity in a Guinn administration that hasn't been elected," Guinn said. "I can assure the people of the state that not one person, not one, was offered or even talked to about a job until after the election."
In the new book, "The Anointed One: An Inside Look at Nevada Politics," authored by Las Vegas Sun columnist and political analyst Jon Ralston, it's asserted that Guinn campaign advisor Sig Rogich tried to eliminate Jones' candidacy by offering her the post of Nevada Gaming Commission chairwoman.
"The governor is simply wrong," Ralston said today, standing behind what he wrote in his book.
