Picks: Gorman won’t find much success in Alaska
Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 | 9:40 a.m.
That's more like it. A 10-1 week boosts the old season record back to respectability. This week is treacherous:
WEEK FOUR
Thursday's game
BISHOP GORMAN (2-1) at DIMOND (Alaska) (6-0), 8 p.m.
The Gaels have surrendered 43 points to Rancho, 34 to Eldorado and 29 to Basic. Then, throw in a 3,000-mile trek and a 50-degree weather change.
Pick -- Dimond 34, Gorman 28
RANCHO BERNARDO (Calif.) (1-1) at CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (3-0), 7 p.m.
The biggest threat to a perfect regular season for the Spartans. The Broncos nearly toppled defending C.I.F. Division I champ El Camino last week.
Pick -- Cimarron 20, R. Bernardo 13
WESTERN (2-1) at ELDORADO (2-1), 7 p.m.
Sundevils go for the Southwest Division trifecta after big wins over Gorman and Durango. Steven Jackson is the area's biggest difference-maker.
Pick -- Eldorado 27, Western 20
DURANGO (1-2) at DESERT PINES (3-0), 7 p.m.
I admit, I didn't have this one circled on my calendar three weeks ago but it's one of the week's most compelling matchups..
Pick -- Durango 24, Desert Pines 14
CHEYENNE (2-1) at LAS VEGAS (1-2), 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are smarting after second pounding in three weeks.
Pick -- Cheyenne 26, Las Vegas 21
CHAPARRAL (3-0) at MOJAVE (1-2), 7 p.m.
The Cowboys are confident and rolling.
Pick -- Chaparral 34, Mojave 13
PALO VERDE (1-2) at RANCHO (1-2), 7 p.m.
After great opener against Valley, the Panthers have fallen on hard times.
Pick -- Rancho 21, Palo Verde 20
GREEN VALLEY (2-1) at BONANZA (0-3), 7 p.m.
Gators triple last year's win total by week four.
Pick -- Green Valley 24, Bonanza 6
CLARK (1-2) at VALLEY (2-1), 7 p.m.
Vikings' "D" too strong.
Pick -- Valley 21, Clark 14
SILVERADO (1-2) at CENTENNIAL (0-3), 7 p.m.
After rocky start, Skyhawks get back on track.
Pick -- Silverado 41, Centennial 10
ROCKHURST (Mo.) (3-0) at BASIC (0-3), 7 p.m.
Missouri's 5A state runner-ups are coming to town. Take cover.
Pick -- Rockhurst 49, Basic 7
Last week: 10-1; Season: 24-8 (.750)
