Letter: Chilling thought: W. as president
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 | 9:50 a.m.
Clinton's hormonal behavior problems are yesterday's news. Bush seems to forget that he is running against Al Gore, who had nothing to do with Clinton's private behavior. But that's OK with this Democrat.
Bush cannot run against Gore on Social Security and Medicare because he has no national experience on the issues. Bush cannot, in good conscience, stand before a veterans group, as he did recently, wearing a VFW cap. Bush did not serve in the regular military service. He did not volunteer to serve in Vietnam and did not go to Vietnam. Al Gore did both.
Bush's criticism of the military is very shallow for a draft dodger, and it is an insult to our troops. Bush cannot run on women's issues against Gore because he has no record on women's issues, as does Gore.
Fortunately for them, more women are beginning to wake up to the fact that the next president will likely appoint two or three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. Should that president be Bush, and Roe vs. Wade is reversed, their wombs will fall under the control of the federal government.
That should be a chilling thought to women, and to anyone who thinks that government has no right inside the womb of any woman.
