Editorial: Local Olympians prove their mettle

Lori Harrigan doesn't play in one of the glamorous Olympic sports, such as swimming or gymnastics, but over the weekend the Las Vegan pulled off an amazing feat nonetheless, pitching the first solo no-hitter ever in an Olympic softball game. Harrigan isn't the only local resident making a splash in Sydney, though.
Las Vegas gymnast Tasha Schwikert no longer is in the hunt for a medal, but her performance still has been outstanding. Just 15 years old, Schwikert scored a 9.675 on the uneven bars during Tuesday's team competition, her highest mark ever on that apparatus.
The Sydney Games haven't generated the same interest among Americans that the 1996 Atlanta Games did, but that can't be said for many Las Vegans, who have marveled at the accomplishments of Harrigan and Schwikert.
