Artist gave up law practice
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 | 4:41 a.m.
Michael Nye graduated from the South Texas College of Law in 1978 and practiced law until 1984, when he quit to become a photographer.
His only formal training in the art came from reading about photographers, visiting some of them and seeing their work.
Since 1984, Nye's photography has taken him to Siberia, Mexico, Iraq, China, Palestine and Labrador, recording images of men, women and children. His work has appeared in exhibits throughout the country.
Through the U.S. Information Agency, Nye has lectured and exhibited work in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, India and Morocco.
He has served as artist-in-residence at Nolom in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.
