Young filmmakers to enter CineVegas
Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 | 9:54 a.m.
Student filmmakers in middle and high school are invited to participate in CineVegas International Film Festival's Youth in Film competition.
Youths participating in the program can submit a film up to 10 minutes long in digital, Hi-8, Super-8 or VHS format on the theme "Nevada Is Not a Wasteland." Students are to address the perception that cities in Nevada are adult-oriented and lack activities for children.
Participants are encouraged to create imaginative projects that reflect their views on living here and the perceptions of the city.
The UNLV film department will be among the many resources made available to students to assist with the production of their films. The university's film department will offer two half-day filmmaking workshops on Sept. 30 and Oct. 14.
In addition, the Lied Discovery Children's Museum will host Media 100 editing workshops on Oct. 14 and Oct. 28. Apple Computers and Century 23 will also provide free technical assistance for students who don't have their own equipment.
Entries will be judged on content, creativity and technical quality. There will be 12 films selected to screen at the film festival, which runs Nov. 28-Dec. 3 at Paris Las Vegas.
The producers of the top three films will receive video cameras, editing software and festival passes.
Finished productions must be submitted by Nov. 6. Students interested in participating can contact Amy Carrelli at 477-7530 or send e-mail (MosEisleyX@aol.com).
