A group of local students have joined the Clark County Bar Association's 2000 Trial by Peers, a program that received a $3,500 grant from the State Bar of Nevada.
Trial By Peers is a 7-year-old program that allows first-time juvenile offenders to be prosecuted and defended by teen counselors working with judges and attorneys serving as mentors.
The new counselors who graduated from the summer program are Joseph Acuna, Thomas Adams III, Alphonso Ayala, Jessica Battistoni, Lisa Bergamotto, Ashley Cabral, Alicia Cason, Joshua Chase, Ryan Cossey, Katrina Haas, Jason Hoeg, Jenna Hoeg, Jonathan Holcomb, Royi Moas, Josue Navarro, Nicholas Noah, Eddie Overton, Christina Rodgers, Miranda Schubert, Briana Slade, Daryl Sprague, Kirsten Stilley, Nicole Verheyen, Bryan Wachter, and Elizabeth Zamora.
The grant was one of several awarded by the state bar. The state bar's Young Lawyers Section received $2,000 for its Nevada Coming of Age pamphlets that explain legal responsibilities of adulthood to Nevada high school seniors.
The family section received $2,000 to translate two informational brochures into Spanish.
