Letter: Miller’s time is short
Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 | 11:10 a.m.
Regarding Dean Juipe's column on Dennis Miller ("Miller's time is expired," Sept. 13):
I was one of those guys who really looked forward to Dennis Miller in the booth. He's a great wit and an able communicator in the same league as Bill Maher and other "thinkers." I thought he would be fun. But he isn't. And Al Michaels seems to be forced into one-upping the guy and that certainly doesn't work.
Football commentary doesn't have to be "dumbed down." Watch the best team on TV and see (Mike) Patrick, (Paul) Maguire and (Joe) Theismann (on ESPN) on Sunday nights. Keep it moving, keep it fun and keep it insightful.
I don't need ill-timed comments about the Peloponnesian War spearing my concentration.
