POWs, MIAs to be honored
Southern Nevada veterans will remember and honor prisoners of war and those missing in action 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Veterans Center and Museum, 3333 Cambridge St., just south of Desert Inn Road.
The day has been proclaimed POW/ MIA Recognition Day by both the city of Las Vegas and Clark County. For more information, call 595-7948
Sweat it out at Boogie Fever
The Clark County Fire Department is inviting residents to sweat for the department's burn fund tonight.
"Boogie Fever 2000," a group aerobics benefit for the burn fund, will be held between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness, 7980 W. Sahara Ave.
For a $15 donation people will be able to join in an outdoor aerobics class working out to the beat of a live disco band, fire department spokesman Steve La-Sky said.
The burn fund is used to help the victims of fires recover from the loss of homes, possessions and loved ones.
Program planned at Lorenzi Park
The Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services Community School program will host a hip hop festival 6-9 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park.
Tickets are $3 in advance or $5 at the door. Call the Becker Community School at 229-2482 for ticket locations. The event is open to people 10 years old and older.
Coolers, pets and re-entry will be prohibited. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Blankets, lawn chairs and sand chairs are welcome for grass seating. For more information, call 229-2482. Lorenzi Park is located on West Washington Avenue off Rancho Drive.
Workshop set in Henderson
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a shadow puppetry workshop noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive. Enrollement is $15 per person (ages 13 or more).

Benefit to help Candlelighters
A "Sew for the Cure Weekend of Caring" event will be Friday through Sunday benefiting Candlelighters and Nathan Adelson Hospice.
Volunteers are encouraged to come out to the Sewing Room at both locations, 3768 E. Flamingo Road and 2160 N. Rainbow Blvd., to help sew comfort caps, comfort pillows and whatever is needed. For more information, call 433-6055 or 646-6629.
Class reunion
The 20th reunion of Las Vegas High School's Class of 1980 will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Big Dog's Cafe and Casino, 6390 W. Sahara Ave. The reunion will continue with dinner and entertainment on Saturday at Alexis Park.
