Joe Kloeckner
Football official
Contribution to prep sports: Kloeckner, a 1998 Western High graduate, is in his first season as a football referee, serving as a line judge for Southern Nevada Officials Association crew five. A sophomore at UNLV, Kloeckner was the Warriors' starting quarterback during his playing days, and took up officiating to stay involved with the sport. "I'm too small to play college football, but just being around the players and the fans is the best feeling in the world," Kloeckner said. "It's for the love of the game." Kloeckner officiates freshman, junior varsity and varsity contests each week, keeping the play clock and watching for specific penalties like pass interference and holding from his position along the sideline. "When I'm officiating, I'm paying attention to my area of the field. It all comes down to positioning."
