Joseph T. Canella Sr.

Joseph T. Canella Sr., 60, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Chicago. A resident of four months, he was a retired insulator in the construction industry, an Air Force veteran and a member of International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators Local 17.

He is survived by his wife Joann Marie; one son, Joseph Canella Jr. of Arkansas; three daughters, Diana Eisen of Steamwood, Ill., Kathleen Manzella of Des Plaines, Ill., and Wendy Richoz of Henderson; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Services are scheduled 3 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, Eastern. Burial will be in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Jerry Cariker

Jerry Cariker, 66, of Las Vegas died Sept. 3 in Las Vegas. A resident for 15 years, he was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Beatty.

Burial will be noon Thursday in Desert Hills Cemetery in Beatty.

William Condello

William Condello, 39, of Las Vegas died Sept. 6 in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 28, 1961, in Xenia, Ohio. A resident for 15 years, he was a dealer.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy, and one sister, Debbie Condello, both of Colorado; and one brother, Michael Condello of Las Vegas.

Services are scheduled 2 p.m. Friday in Christ Episcopal Church, Maryland Parkway and St. Louis Avenue. Burial will be in Colorado.

Guy Frederick Eckert

Guy Frederick Eckert, 87, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Skagway, Alaska. A resident for 58 years, he was a cabdriver with Lucky Cab and Yellow Cab and drove for Las Vegas Transit Co. until retiring in 1975, repaired planes at Las Vegas Gunnery School, which is now Nellis Air Force Base, cut copper bars for Basic Magnesium Inc. in Henderson and was honored for a perfect driving record having logged over a million miles without an accident.

He is survived by two sons, Frederick Richard Eckert of Alameda, Calif., and Don Lee Eckert of Las Vegas; one daughter, Caroline Eckert Wallace of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services are scheduled 4 p.m. Thursday in the Bunkers Chapel.

Dennis Francis Fenstra

Dennis Francis Fenstra, 43, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1957, in Minnesota. A resident for two years, he was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry.

He is survived by his companion, Deborah Smith of Las Vegas; one son, Mark Bertram, and one daughter, Lisa Bertram, both of Forest City, Iowa; his mother, Mary Ann Fenstra, two brothers, Thomas Fenstra and Kenneth Fenstra, and one sister, Diane Fenstra, all of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Services are scheduled 3 p.m. Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Wilmer S. Fewins

Wilmer S. Fewins, 92, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 7, 1908, in Kansas. A resident for three years, he worked for Anaconda Copper for 20 years, achieved the rank of chief warrant officer during World War II, was decorated with a Bronze Star for meritorious service in 1945 by the India China division, served as a volunteer fireman, a Cub and Boy Scout leader and a 4-H leader, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Warner of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Roger of Miles City, Mont., and Robert of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled 11 a.m. Thursday in Jewell Funeral Home in Montana.

Gregory John Fox

Gregory John Fox, 48, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1952, in Los Angeles. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired carpenter, an Army veteran and a member of Carpenters Local 1780.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; and one daughter, Marie Ballard of Las Vegas.

Alfred Joseph Gomes II

Alfred Joseph Gomes II, 73, of Reno died Friday in Reno. He was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Hayward, Calif. A former resident of Las Vegas, he had been an executive with Del Webb Corp. hotels, including serving as assistant manager of the Sahara and beverage manager of the Mint in Las Vegas, vice president and general manager of Kuilima hotel in Hawaii and vice president and general manager of the Primadonna in Reno until his retirement in 1979.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Kay Gomes.

He is survived by two sons, Dana Paul and Alfred Gomes III, both of Reno; one daughter, Judith Nelson of Alaska; one sister Bernice Pascerelli; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 until to 11 a.m. services Friday in Reno. Burial will be in Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Joseph L. Guzzetta, 77, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice.

He is survived by his wife, Kirsten; four sons, Michael, Kenneth, Stephen and Alan Guzzetta; and four grandchildren.

Willie Houle

Willie Houle, 89, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. He was born June 17, 1911, in Quebec. A resident for 52 years, he was a retired retail sales supervisor.

He is survived by his wife, Sallie; three sons, Andre Houle and Jerry Wagner, both of Las Cruces, N.M., and Renee Houle of Chicago; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m. until noon services Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Mavis J. Jones

Mavis J. Jones, 40, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1960, in Lake Providence, La. A resident for 12 years, she was a manager for a photo company.

She is survived by husband, Vernon; one son, Gerald Thompson, four daughters, Kwanna Taylor-Davison, Bridget Jones, Lea-Angellica Jones and Samantha Jones, and one sister, Sylvia Banks, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Eddie Henson of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3:30-8 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services are scheduled 11 a.m Friday in New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1165 Lawry Ave. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Robert E. Kelly

Robert E. Kelly, 58, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1941, in Los Angeles. A resident for 26 years, he was a driver in the transportation industry.

He is survived by his companion, Verleen Zevenbergen, one daughter, Barbara Denton, and two sons, Antonio Nunez and Robert S. Kelly, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Marsha Christensen of Downey, Calif., and Marilyn Boadway of Norwalk, Calif.; one brother Ronald Kelly of Buena Park, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial services is scheduled 6 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Road.

Richard K. Kemp

Richard K. Kemp, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born July 20, 1917, in Los Angeles. A resident for 27 years, he was a truck driver.

He is survived by one son, Michael K. Kemp of Las Vegas; one daughter, Marleen Dubin of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Nick Markakis

Mitchell Nick Markakis, 66, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Sunnyside, Utah. A resident for 40 years, he was a cabdriver, an Army veteran and a member of the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Karyl A.; three brothers, Michael Nick Markakis of Las Vegas, Jay Nick Markakis of Salt Lake City and Alex Nick Markakis of Price, Utah; and two sisters, Mary Piantes of Las Vegas and Catherine Haaser of Ogden, Utah.

Services and burial will be in Price. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handled arrangements.

Michael Ronald McNaghten

Michael Ronald McNaghten, 30, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 8, 1970, in Palm Springs, Calif. A resident for one year, he was a retired marble installer.

He is survived by his companion, Diane Rummler; two sons, Matthew Rummler and Mark McNaghten, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Susan Rector of San Diego; his father, Michael McNaghten of Cottonwood, Calif.; and one sister, Kellie McNagten of Long Beach, Calif.

Robert Mendenhall

Robert Mendenhall, 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Iowa. A longtime resident, he was a heavy equipment operator and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret; and one son, Robert Kenneth Mendenhall Jr. of Lakewood, Calif.

Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Michael C. Ponzianna

Michael C. Ponzianna, 79, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. He was born April 25, 1921, in Lowellville, Ohio. A resident for 38 years, he was a retired real estate salesman for Pardee Construction and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who was a sergeant with the 303rd Air Service Group.

He is survived by wife, Norma; two daughters, Patricia Devellin of Boardman, Ohio, and Linda Merlo of Canfield, Ohio; two sons Ronald Hidinger of San Diego and Donald Hidinger of Newberry Springs, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., handled arrangements.

George Cook Popjoy

George Cook Popjoy, 75, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Downington, Pa. A resident for 44 years, he was a retired postal clerk and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by two sons, John Popjoy and Richard Popjoy, both of North Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

A memorial services is scheduled 1 p.m. Thursday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, in the Meadows Room.
