Letter: Politicians ignore the ‘little guy’
Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 | 10:04 a.m.
The cutting back is usually in the programs designed to help those who cannot totally provide for themselves and their dependents.
Not one of these politicians ever had to worry about where their next paycheck was coming from. Are the taxpayers the ones who pay for these politicians' livelihood?
These politicians are provided with more benefits and perks than most working people. While cutting back on programs to help those in need, these same well-heeled politicians give themselves a raise. They continue to preach smaller government while increasing the size of their staff and the budgets to run their offices.
Let's face it, they are lawmakers elected to their offices by the people to represent the people, all of the people. They should be concerned about the have-nots, the least of the people, and make this a truly caring nation.
Forget lining their own pockets, the tax breaks for their buddies and the rich, and put the money where it will do the most good for those who really need the help.
A major problem is that not one of these lawmakers has gone hungry, been without health care or wondered where he would sleep tonight.
