County Commissioners have unanimously approved a site across from the regional jail for the proposed Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center.
The commission directed its staff on Tuesday to obtain an appraisal for the site on Parr Boulevard, south of the jail, and begin negotiations for the 16 acres owned by the Ferrari family.
The county mailed 4,500 notices to neighbors about the three possible sites in the North Valleys. Seventy-eight of the 93 who responded favored the Parr site.
Commissioner Pete Sferrazza said there is overwhelming support for the Parr Boulevard site.
Capital projects manager Rodney Savini said the site also is much less expensive to build on than the other two.
