Murderer’s appeal dismissed

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Supreme Court Monday dismissed the appeal of Christopher A. Jones, who was sentenced to consecutive life terms in prison for the shooting of a woman seven times outside her home in Las Vegas in May 1995.

After being convicted of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon, Jones agreed to waive his right to a separate penalty hearing. He agreed to the life terms and to serving 20 years before being eligible for parole.

In his appeal, Jones sought to withdraw from the agreement.

The Supreme Court, in a brief order, said Jones' "contentions lack merit" and that District Judge Mark Denton properly denied the petition to withdraw from the agreement. Jones was charged with beating and kicking Almeta Williams in her home. He left the residence and Williams followed him to get his license plate to relay to authorities.

Jones fired a .40-caliber handgun at Williams, hitting her seven times. He then fired several shots at Williams' children but did not hit any of them.
