Two-car accident leaves youth dead and senior hurt

Washoe County sheriff's deputies said Anna Marie Hatheway was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident Friday evening in Lemmon Valley north of Reno.
Deputies said a preliminary investigation reveals that excessive speed may have caused the victim's car to skid into the path of an oncoming flatbed truck driven by Robert Jennings of Reno.
Jennings was treated for head and neck injuries at Washoe Medical Center and released.
Deputies said the impact of the collision caused Hatheway's car to careen backwards about 80 feet.
The girl was wearing a seat belt.
