Letter: Mirage animals handled with care
Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 | 9:36 a.m.
PETA's target in this instance is Gildah, the elephant in the Secret Garden at the Mirage. If most animals were cared for and treated half as well as Siegfried and Roy's animals, the world would be a wonderful place. Barbaric methods such as cattle prods and bull hooks are not used and never would be. Siegfried and Roy have repeatedly said that "a tiger is a tiger." Never have they claimed that their animals have been domesticated, nor would they want them to be.
If PETA is truly concerned and dedicated to the welfare, safety and happiness of animals, they should direct their efforts elsewhere. But then, why should they? They stand to make much more money this way.
