Federal funds to help secure flight path

Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 | 4:44 a.m.

The Steele Nash Ranch is under the airport's flight path, and the Washoe County Airport Authority's plan to relocate the ranch is designed to improve air navigation safety at the airport.

The ranch, which dates back to the 1800s, consists of a house and 10 other structures on 62 acres. The authority plans to acquire the land and buildings at an estimated cost of $9.6 million.

The Nash family supports the acquisition and relocation of the ranch buildings, and has asked the Federal Aviation Administration to provide the authority with funds.

In addition to the nearly $4 million award, Reid expects to secure additional funding from the FAA next year.
