The University of Nevada Patient Care Clinic is seeking Las Vegas residents to participate in a therapeutic trial to determine if anti-inflammatory drugs slow the cognitive decline in Alzheimer's patients.
The drugs, naproxen sodium, which is the active ingredient in the pain reliever Aleve, and rofecoxib, which is the active ingredient in the prescription pain reliever Vioxx, will be investigated.
Eligible patients with probable Alzheimer's disease will be followed for 14 months. The trials will be conducted at 40 centers throughout the country.
The study is being directed by Dr. Charles Bernick, principal investigator at the University of Nevada Patient Care Clinic in Las Vegas.
