Former Las Vegas home builder Mirage Homes is apparently the target of a federal criminal investigation.
Steve Byrne, president of mortgage company Vestin Group of Las Vegas, said his company is aware of a federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office aimed at a home builder, which he understands is Mirage Homes. Byrne stressed that Vestin, a former lender to Mirage Homes, was not a target or subject of this investigation.
The federal government "is looking into whether or not (Vestin) was victimized by this company (Mirage Homes)," said Amanda Getzoff, spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, which regulates the real estate industry. Getzoff said she also understood that Mirage Homes was the target of the federal investigators.
