DALLAS DOBBS
School: Chaparral
Class: Senior
Sport: Football
Last week: Dobbs, the Cowboys' starting quarterback, completed 12 of 17 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns to lead Chaparral to a season-opening 38-20 victory over Bonanza. Dobbs, who took over quarterbacking duties from his brother, Tyson, last season, threw a touchdown pass in every quarter, helping the visitors to 24 second-half points. "You don't see a lot of experienced quarterbacks this year, so that gives Dallas an upper hand," Chaparral coach Ben Johnson said. "He communicates well with our receivers, and we have some speed at receiver."
LACEE KOELLIKER
School: Silverado
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Volleyball
Last week: Koelliker, the Skyhawks' starting setter, racked up 47 assists to help Silverado to three-game sweeps over 1999 playoff qualifiers Bishop Gorman and Palo Verde. Over the weekend, she led the Skyhawks to a 7-2 record and an area-best fifth-place finish at the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament. "She was a little timid and scared at the start of the week, but as it went on, she's making a lot of key plays at the right time," Silverado coach Pam Sloan said. "She's stepped in this year and done a great job."
