Foundation is taking applications
The PacifiCare Foundation, a nonprofit foundation funded by PacifiCare Health Systems and employee donations, is accepting grant applications until Jan. 1.
The foundation supports charitable and educational programs that increase access to health care; wellness programs for youth and seniors; education; and human and social services. It grants funds twice a year.

It's circus time at local complex
The Girls and Boys Town is holding a street festival 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the town complex, 8050 Flanagan Drive.
"Cirque du Monde" performers have been conducting a circus workshop for all the children at Girls and Boys Town for several weeks. The children will be performing under the Big Top at the residential site near Rainbow Boulevard and Grand Teton Drive.

Applications due for state plan
The Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program is accepting applications for the 2000 enrollment period now through Jan. 31, with payments beginning March.
The program has enrolled more than 5,800 children, and $17 million has been invested on their behalf. For more information, call the Nevada Prepaid Tuition office at (888) 477-2667. In Las Vegas call 486-2025, or visit the website (prepaidtuition.state.nv.us).
Program offered at health center
JHC Health Center will offer the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving program 12:30-4:30 p.m. Friday and Oct. 13 at the center, 1001 Shadow Lane.
The four-hour course is $30. Many private insurance companies offer premium discounts to those who complete the course. To register, call 388-3591.
Speakers set at annual event
The Las Vegas chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is holding its annual fraud seminar 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Stratosphere.
Speakers from the state Gaming Control Board, National Insurance Crime Bureau, National Health Care Anti-fraud Association and Cybersource Corp. will be featured.

Workshop planned for ventriloquists
A beginning ventriloquist workshop is being offered at noon Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, Henderson.
Enrollment is $15 per person (ages 13 or more). The workshop is sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 450-5885.
Angel Park will host Jamboree
The Angel Park Golf Center in Summerlin is hosting an open house Jamboree Saturday to signal the opening of an eight-week instructional golf program sponsored by Angels in the Community Inc.

Alzheimer's group schedules workshop
Caregivers will have an opportunity to learn firsthand about local facilities that provide care for the memory impaired 2 p.m. Friday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.
The workshop is part of the Southern Nevada Alzheimer's Association's Caregiver Program Series. To register, call 248-2770.

Gerald Goldstein, a psychiatry professor with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, will lecture on childhood developmental disorders in adults at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History at UNLV. Call 895-3401.
