Educators to meet for state board

CARSON CITY -- In a tight race in Clark County for the state Board of Education, a ninth grade teacher and an assistant school superintendent came out on top.
In final unofficial results in Tuesday's election, John Hawk, who teaches at the Silverado satellite campus, polled 7,057 or 39.9 percent of the vote, and Edward Goldman, the assistant superintendent for administrative services for the Clark County School District, received 6,049 votes or 33.3 percent.
John Scott II drew 5,020 votes, or 27.7 percent, and was eliminated.
Hawk, 26, and Goldman, 49, will meet in the general election, seeking to succeed Doris Femenella, who did not run for re-election in Subdistrict D.
In Northern Nevada in District 3, incumbent Dave Cook of Carson City led a field of three. He polled 42.1 percent to 33.4 percent for Barbara Myers.
