A Bluffton, S.C., magazine publisher is seeking more than $2.17 million in damages from a Las Vegas couple, alleging it was forced to stop publishing magazines under the "Millionaire" and "Billionaire" names after the couple illegally cancelled its rights to use the trademarks.
Millionaire.com sued the magazines' former owners Douglas and Jenny Lambert in Clark County District Court.
Millionaire.com alleged the defendants, after being paid $400,000 and the first $170,000 installment of a $1.67 million promissory note for 400,000 shares of their Millionaire.com stock, illegally seized the stock and cancelled its rights to use the copyrights.
The publisher said it incurred additional costs because it was forced to trademark another name, "Opulence," for a new publication and publish new magazines to satisfy advertisers, subscribers and stockholders.
The Lamberts could not be reached for comment on the allegations.
