FAA investigates plane crash

Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 | 9:48 a.m.

Two men and two women believed to be from the South Lake Tahoe area were on the Piper Malibu, which crashed shortly after takeoff Friday afternoon from the local airport.

El Dorado County sheriff's deputies said the plane apparently veered east shortly after takeoff and went down in the backyard of a home in the Tahoe Paradise subdivision near Myers.

"The bodies were badly burned," sheriff's spokesman Todd Crawford said. "Their identities haven't been determined pending the coroner's investigation and comparison of their dental records."

Authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration traveled here Saturday to begin the investigation.
