But, other village board members say they already know how they'll vote.
"I'm totally against it," said Trustee Fred LaRosa.
An advisory referendum is scheduled for Plover residents Sept. 12. The Village Board will meet Sept. 13 to consider the proposal and the County Board has a tentative meeting Sept. 14.
The Lac du Flambeau Chippewa tribe is searching for a location in Wisconsin to build a combination casino, hotel and convention center.
The tribe has proposed a $50 million to $100 million complex in the village of Plover on a site near an interchange with Interstate 39.
Trustee Anton Anday said he will wait to hear from voters.
"I want to know what the community has to say," Anday said. "There are some issues I want to discuss before a decision is made."
Most board members said they plan to keep the advisory referendum results in mind for their final votes.
"I'm going to give it some consideration," said Trustee Gary Krause. "But, the fact is, only about 20 percent vote in the fall election, so I'd hate to base my opinion on only 20 percent of the people. I'm going to listen to constituents, consider the outcome of the nonbinding referendum and look at the economic impact." said Krause.
