Police search for coin truck robbers

Friday, Sept. 1, 2000 | 4:18 a.m.

Las Vegas police are searching for two men who stole a coin truck early Friday on the city's west side.

A United Coin truck driver had just finished delivering $100 worth of nickels to a Texaco mini-mart around 3 a.m. when he was attacked by two men as he returned to his truck, said Lt. Joe Gemma.

The driver, who was unarmed, was hit over the head with a gun and the two men escaped with the truck, Gemma said.

The driver was taken to University Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police estimate the truck was carrying about $6,000 in cash.

The coin truck's Nevada license plate number is 083 EUU.

"This is the first coin truck robbery in recent memory, at least at this end of town," Gemma said.
