NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. -- Leaders of the Eastern Pequot tribe, which is seeking federal tribal recognition, have for the first time declared publicly that they are interested in building a casino.
Tribal leaders told the Norwich Bulletin on Thursday they are seeking a partnership with a Connecticut municipality to construct a world-class resort.
Until now, the Easterns had said it was premature to talk about economic development options.
"We believe that our tribe can offer the communities of this region a means to achieve some of their most important goals: producing new jobs, generating additional municipal revenue and enhancing the quality of life," said Eastern Chairwoman Mary Sebas.
