Neal trails Clinton in campaign cash

State Sen. Joe Neal, the North Las Vegas Democrat who has faced nominal opposition in past elections, has failed to raise as much campaign money as has District 4 opponent, Uri Clinton.
Neal reported raising $50,507 and spending $40,473. As previously reported, fellow Democrat Clinton raised $55,211 and spent $51,154. The other Democrat in the race, Christopher Montanez, listed no campaign contributions.
Neal's largest contributions included $5,000 from the Clark County Education Association and $4,000 each from the Nevada State Education Association and Nevada Senate Democrats. He also loaned his campaign $8,000 from personal funds.
The senator has suggested that Nevada negotiate for benefits should the federal government decided to ship high-level nuclear waste to this state. But none of his campaign contributions this year have come from the nuclear power industry.
More than half of Clinton's campaign contributions have come from the gaming industry, which opposes Neal's proposal to raise taxes on the largest resorts to help pay for education, public safety and other programs.
