Barbara Greenspun remembers 1958: Amazingly accurate forecast

There aren't many of us who are granted the opportunity to look into the future, unless we have the good fortune to live with a dreamer like my late husband, Hank.
I was always amazed at his ability to see what lied ahead and be right on target every time. How well I remember his forecast for Green Valley and how many times we drove over lava rocks and through sagebrush in our Chevy station wagon. At the time, lava rocks were much in demand for landscaping and Hank encouraged residents to help themselves.
Often we would be stuck at the bottom of a small ravine and have to push and shove our way out. At one point, I became so exasperated and weary from shoving, I turned to Hank and suggested he should get a horse to traverse the rocky terrain.
Hank didn't live to see the tremendous growth of our valley today and the magnificent hotels on the Strip, but many of the predictions he made so long ago have come true.
He truly loved Las Vegas and would be as proud of his adopted hometown today as he was when we began publishing the Las Vegas Sun in 1950.
