Letter: Guinn doing excellent job with health care
Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000 | 10 a.m.
A fine example of his successful initiatives was the appointment of Laurie England to head the Office of Consumer Health Assistance in August 1999, and in bringing that office up to speed fast.
At that time he said he was confident England would do a "sensational job." Also at that time Barbara Buckley, the politician, said: "I'm distressed by the appointment." I can attest that England turned around a major HMO in Nevada that refused to honor their contract in my case in refusing to pay my emergency physician and hospital bills.
I am a working single mother and England's efforts saved me over one month's pay because the HMO would not honor its commitments. I was surprised at her success because HMOs and their directors have a lot of "juice."
I know others who have been helped by England's office and are quite thankful. Guinn is doing well in health care, I personally assure you.
