Letter: Fire protection tax excessive
Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000 | 10 a.m.
Where have our esteemed City Fathers been lately? Asleep in City Hall; out to lunch? Where have they been the past few years? Have any of them noticed the media reports of the 3,000-5,000 new residents moving into the Las Vegas area every month? Do they read the newspapers or watch TV?
While we supposedly have master plans for the community, they continue approving new developments, each containing hundreds of new homes, rezoning existing residential estates, trying to obtain land from the BLM for even more subdivisions. Does anyone down at City Hall stop to realize, besides schools to be built for all the new students, that other public needs should be looked at? What happened to the planning and zoning departments? Are they also out to lunch?
Hey, you good folks down at City Hall, it's time to review this issue before throwing all our taxes out the window. Relook at the master plan for the city, relook at the exploding population, relook at what is needed.
According to this question, the city only looks down the road for the next 10 years. Do that for now and let us worry then, if we are still alive. Fire protection for the city is necessary, but the period of taxation is much too long.
