Motorists, children get trick-or-treat tips
Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 | 10:06 a.m.
As trick-or-treaters hit the streets on Halloween, AAA Nevada is urging motorists to slow down and parents to take preventative measures.
"On Halloween night, we're placing our children in some of the most dangerous traffic situations you could imagine," Lisa Foster, spokeswoman for the American Automobile Association, said. "Our children are outside after dark, they walk and cross unfamiliar streets and often wear dark colors that are difficult for motorists to see."
The auto insurance company suggests that motorists drive at least 5 mph below the speed limit and make their vehicles more visible by turning on headlights.
Parents and children should select costumes that are light colored and easy to walk in. Flimsy, lightweight fabrics with billowing skirts or baggy sleeves should be avoided, AAA Nevada said.
