Children invited to enjoy Halloween at haunted forest
Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 | 10:04 a.m.
Opportunity Village will host a family-oriented Halloween event, "Safe Streets and Haunted Forest," 4-8 tonight and Tuesday at its campus at 6300 W. Oakey Blvd.
Families can enjoy activities such as the spooky train ride, a haunted castle, costume contests and entertainment. Children will be able to go through the spooky forest to trick or treat.
Money raised at the event will be used to fund Opportunity Village's programs for people with mental retardation and related disabilities.
There will be also food vendors selling refreshment, and of course there will be plenty of candy for the youngsters.
For the adults in the area looking for a charitable way to spend the night before Halloween, the Joint at the Hard Rock hotel is hosting the Sam Schmidt Foundation's HallowEve fund-raiser.
The foundation will be auctioning off a variety of sports and racing items, including a football autographed by Walter Payton.
After a racing accident in January, Sam Schmidt, a Henderson resident and former Indy race car driver, was paralyzed.
