Las Vegas scares up a cauldron of Halloween events

Las Vegas will be a spooky place for the next five days -- even spookier than usual.
Halloween celebrants will have a cauldron full of activities to choose from.
The following is a list of Halloween-related events.
Friday
What: A haunted house will raise funds to benefit battered and abandoned women and children.
When: 2-11 p.m., through Tuesday.
Where: 4460 W. Hacienda Ave.
Admission: $6 for adults; $3 for children 12 and under. (In lieu of cash, the shelter will accept donations of stamps, women's undergarments, new white socks and other items.)

What: Haunted houses.
When: 6 p.m.-midnight today and Saturday, 6-11 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday.
Where: Three locations -- the Black Box, in the parking lot of United Artists Theater, North Rainbow Boulevard and Smoke Ranch Road; the Dungeon in the parking of Kmart, 5051 E. Boanza Road at Nellis Boulevard; and the Mortuary in the parking lot of Sunset Station.
Admission: $8. (No one under 5 is allowed; under 12 must be accompanied.)

What: A haunted midway with food, merchandise and free entertainment and two haunted houses -- the Asylum and the Castle of Carnage in 3D.
Where: North parking lot of the New Frontier.
When: 6 p.m.-1 a.m. today through Sunday, 6 p.m.-midnight Monday and Tuesday.
Admission: $15.99 for adults; $11.99 for children ages 6-9; free for ages 5 and under with an adult.

What: Tenth annual event offers an alternative to trick-or-treating for ages 12 and under. Festivities include a spooky train ride and a costume contest.

What: In its 34th year, this costume ball benefits Aid for AIDS of Nevada. Known for its legendary costume contest, winners are voted on by party-goers. To qualify to be crowned king and queen of the ball, a person must be involved with, volunteer for or employed by the local entertainment industry.
