Picks: Basic receives nod to edge Silverado in Week Nine
Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 | 11:04 a.m.
Can't believe it's Week Nine already. Seems like just yesterday my season of futility began. Never fear, though. Redemption will come in the postseason.
WEEK NINE
Tonight's Games
BASIC (4-4, 3-0) at SILVERADO (4-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.
The Southeast Division title already in the bag, the Wolves are playing for pride. The Skyhawks had trouble against Chaparral's passing attack two weeks ago, and Basic QB Mark Rose can light up the sky with the best of them.
Pick -- Basic 28, Silverado 24
BISHOP GORMAN (5-3, 3-0) at WESTERN (4-4, 2-1), 7 p.m.
Playing with a full roster again, the Gaels are gunning for an outright Northwest Division title. A loss could mean a three-way tie for first, but the scrappy Warriors simply don't have the horses to pull the upset.
Pick -- Gorman 34, Western 26
DESERT PINES (6-2, 2-1) at VALLEY (4-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.
Coming off the upset of the year against Eldorado, the Jaguars should go into the playoffs on a high note.
Pick -- Desert Pines 21, Valley 14
GREEN VALLEY (3-5, 0-3) at CHAPARRAL (5-3, 1-2), 7 p.m.
The Gators' last gasp at a playoff berth falls short.
Pick -- Chaparral 38, Green Valley 13
RANCHO (2-6, 0-3) at ELDORADO (6-2, 2-1), 7 p.m.
Sundevils get back on track and clinch the Northeast title.
Pick -- Eldorado 34, Rancho 7
DURANGO (4-4, 2-1) at BONANZA (0-8, 0-3), 7 p.m.
Blazers finish off a winless Bengals' season.
Pick -- Durango 31, Bonanza 14
MOJAVE (1-7, 0-3) at CHEYENNE (5-3, 1-2), 7 p.m.
Shields keep the Rattlers out of the playoffs.
Pick -- Cheyenne 25, Mojave 6
CENTENNIAL (2-6, 1-2) at PALO VERDE (5-3, 2-1), 7 p.m.
A shutout in the making?
Pick -- Palo Verde 24, Centennial 0
LAS VEGAS (4-4) at FOOTHILL (5-2), 7 p.m.
Wildcats are simply too big, too athletic.
Pick -- Las Vegas 24, Foothill 19
CLARK (2-6) at CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (8-0), 7 p.m.
Regular season perfection for the Spartans.
Pick -- Cimarron 42, Clark 7
Last week: 6-6 Season: 58-27 (.682)
