Letter: Bush has been misleading on several issues
Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 | 9:38 a.m.
I was leaning toward George Bush, for a fresh change, until I followed up on his statements.
He led me to believe that he was responsible for a patient's bill of rights in Texas. He vetoed the first bill presented to him, and let the second one pass without his signature, because it had passed the Legislature with a veto-proof majority.
He led me to believe he was strongly committed to the environment. He has resisted efforts to clean up the air quality in Texas by letting the majority of the worst polluters "voluntarily" comply with cleanup mandates.
He allowed the money given by the federal government for clean air and water to be used to pay a $140 million lawsuit the state lost to an emission control company. This was a company that was to monitor auto emissions.
He is for the people to make the choices that affect their life.
So why is he against the right of a woman to choose?
Blind dates sometimes work out, but in this case it appears to be a mismatch.
