Henderson Fire Department plans field exercise Nov. 1

This year, Halloween will be followed by a two-vehicle accident and hazardous chemical leak.
The Henderson Fire Department has planned a Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) field exercise for Wednesday, Nov. 1, that will include a simulated accident and tanker leak in the parking lot of Clor Alkali, a producer of chlorine bleach.
The exercise will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday and last until 12 p.m.
"CAER exercises provide valuable training for emergency responders," said Mike Cyphers, Henderson's emergency management coordinator. "By doing these we enhance our ability to respond quickly and efficiently during true emergencies."
Other participants in the exercise include the Henderson Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Clark County Fire Department Hazardous Materials team, Pioneer Chlor Alkali, Kerr-McGee, Timet, Bulk Transportation and St. Rose Dominican Hospital.
