Henderson plans workshop Saturday
The Nevada Division of Wildlife and the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department are co-sponsoring a hunter safety workshop 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
Participation is open to individuals 12 years of age or more.
After registration, participants will be required to obtain a course workbook at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center or the Nevada Division of Wildlife office. The workbooks must be completed prior to attending the workshop.
Those successfully completing the workbooks and workshop may earn their hunter safety cards.
Workshop registration is accepted through the Nevada Division of Wildlife. For more information, call 486-5127.
Showboat to host annual bowl-a-thon
The Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force will be holding its Victim Memorial Rededication third annual bowl-a-thon at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Showboat hotel.
Twenty-eight new bronze name plates will be added to the memorial. The event will conclude the National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
District Judge Nancy M. Saitta will speak. Las Vegas City Attorney Brad Jerbic, president of the Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force, will emcee the memorial rededication.
Sign Design Theatre, under the direction of Catie Black, will perform. For more information, call Bonny Midby at 455-6187.
University Forum offers help to elderly
The impact of loss on the lives of older adults will be the topic of the University Forum lecture set for 7:30 p.m. Monday at UNLV.
Mark Floyd, a UNLV psychology professor, will speak about "Overcoming Losses: Enjoying Late Life No Matter What Happens."
Floyd will explore ways that older adults can cope with various losses, such as loss of a loved one or of physical mobility, and still find enjoyment in life. For more information, call Betty Blodgett at 895-3104.
Tips on gourmet cuisine to be offered
A workshop entitled "Vegas Holiday Desserts" will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
Participation is $30 per person, which includes supplies, recipes and a meal. The workshop is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's Vegetarian Cooking for the Family series, which is designed to help participants master basic cooking techniques and develop a flair for gourmet vegetarian cuisine.
The instructor will discuss basic baking techniques. For more information, call 450-5885.
Country music
The country music group, the Riley's plus 2, will be featured at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday at the Salvation Army, 2900 Palomino Lane. For additional information, call 870-4430.
Pumpkin decorating
The Meadows School library will be having its annual pumpkin decorating contest Monday and Tuesday. Call Mrs. Drake at 254-1610, Ext. 235.
