Letter: Hike pay of cops, teachers, nurses
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 | 9:35 a.m.
As a nurse who is married to a teacher, I know that will not work. Making education less expensive may attract more young people to seek higher education, but they are going to choose education in subjects that will gain them respect and financial rewards.
The problem in our society is that these three professions are not respected and not rewarded for their abilities and dedication. To attract more young people to become teachers, police and nurses we need to increase the respect and rewards -- yes, I do mean pay -- for these vital professions.
