Golf tournament to benefit children’s hospital
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 | 9:39 a.m.
Celebrities will hit the links this weekend as part of two days of fund-raising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The cast of HBO's "Arliss" and other luminaries will participate in the second annual Las Vegas Gala and Celebrity Golf Tournament.
But first, on Friday evening a party will pair the golfers and celebrities, followed by a silent auction.
Saturday will be spent at the Badlands Golf Course starting at 7:30 a.m., and a dinner will be held in the evening at the Suncoast hotel.
Charles J. Johnson Jr., chairman and CEO of PurchasePro.com, will be honored as the St. Jude's Man of the Year. Johnson will be recognized for his support of children with diseases such as AIDS and cancer. This will be the first time the award will be presented in Las Vegas.
Tickets for the golf tournament or the awards dinner are $250 per person. A package deal that includes one tournament admission, two tickets for the pairings party Friday and two tickets to the Saturday night event will cost $600.
The event raised more than $300,000 last year for the research hospital in Tennessee, but a goal for this weekend has not been set.
For tickets, call the St. Jude's office at (800) 227-6737.
