Ely warden reassigned to Carson City

A news release from the prison system described E. K. McDaniel's new job as temporary. In addition to the efforts on inmate work and education programs, he's also supposed to help with a major review of the prison's administrative regulations.
The reassignment follows last month's firing of a guard for allegedly providing a prisoner with a weapon to help him escape from the Ely prison, where Nevada's death row inmates are housed.
But prison spokesman Glen Whorton said Tuesday the firing has nothing to do with McDaniel's transfer. He added the warden volunteered to help out in Carson City, and has an extensive background in prison operations.
Erik Jacobs, 30, of McGill, fired last month, has been charged with five counts of providing a weapon or facsimile to a prisoner and two counts of aiding a prisoner to escape.
Jacobs allegedly took five .25-caliber bullets into the prison facility and gave the inmate a handcuff key and other items meant to help him flee. Prison officials said the items were confiscated before they could be used.
