Motorcycle crash leaves Hutton in serious condition

Monday, Oct. 23, 2000 | 11:34 a.m.

Fashion model and actress Lauren Hutton was in serious condition this morning after wrecking her motorcycle 25 miles east of Las Vegas during a celebrity ride over the weekend.

Hutton was being treated at University Medical Center for leg factures, an arm injury, bruises and scrapes, hospital officials said this morning.

The 55-year-old model was riding Saturday along Nevada Route 167 in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area when her motorcycle ran off the roadway and crashed. Hutton was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck and the cause of the accident is under investigation, Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials said.

Hutton was joined by other celebrities on the ride, which was in conjunction with the recent announcement made by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation that it will be teaming up with the State Hermitage Museum of Russia to share a museum near the Venetian hotel-casino.

Hutton was riding with actors Dennis Hopper and Jeremy Irons and other motorcycle enthusiasts as part of a planned 100-mile trip across Southern Nevada.

The Guggenheim Motorcycle Club, to which Hutton belongs, was born out of the success of the exhibit.

Hutton appeared on the cover of Vogue a record 25 times in the 1960s and 1970s.

Since she began acting in 1968, she has appeared in more than 50 films, including "American Gigolo" in 1978 and "Lassiter" in 1984.
