Funding and volunteers are on the rise for a volunteer group trying to persuade Clark County residents to vote Nov. 7 to keep fluoride in the county's water.
As of Oct. 16, Citizens for Healthy Smiles had about $8,000 in contributions, allowing it to rent one billboard and make a single radio spot in addition to distributing thousands of buttons and bumper stickers that it already had printed.
Citizens for Healthy Smiles wants residents to vote "No" on a ballot question asking county residents if they want the Southern Nevada Water Authority to stop fluoridating public water supplies. Fluoridation began in March. A recent poll showed voters split on the ballot question.
Last week, companies contributed an additional $3,500 to the 15-member group, which also added three volunteers, chairwoman Louise Helton said.
The additional funds will allow the group to rent at least three pro-fluoride billboards, she said.
