Letter: SUV drivers are dangerous
Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 | 2:57 a.m.
Stop me if I'm wrong, but it appears that drivers of SUVs and large pickups need extensive driving lessons and a test before they should be granted driver's licenses.
Don't the drivers realize that these massive vehicles are more difficult to drive, judging distances, etc., than normal smaller cars. I see these drivers taking dangerous chances while driving, such as cutting in between vehicles where there is no safe room for them. More often, they seem to speed, talk on their cell phones and rely on their brakes for emergency stops.
The primary use for these types of vehicles appears in areas where four-wheel drives are needed, not for street use, or am I wrong?
A friend told me that the reason she bought an SUV was so everyone would get out of her way. Not a good attitude.
Please, take some extra driver training lessons before driving these monsters.
