Friday, Oct. 20, 2000 | 10:40 a.m.
For the first time in six years, the large school boys tennis trophy will not be returning to Green Valley High School. The Gators fell to Galena, 16-6.5, in the semifinal round at the 4A State Tennis Tournament Thursday at Reno's Plumas Tennis Complex. The Grizzlies square off against Bonanza, a 22.5-0 winner over McQueen, in today's boys championship.
Today's girls final will be an all-Southern Nevada affair, with unbeaten Silverado taking on three-time defending champion Bishop Gorman. The Skyhawks knocked off Reno 16.5-6 on Wednesday, while the Gaels advanced with an 18.5-4 win over McQueen. Individual singles and doubles play begins today, with boys and girls finals in both events slated for Saturday.
