The Las Vegas Balloon Classic is today through Sunday at Silver Bowl Park, adjacent to Sam Boyd Stadium. Events begin at 7 a.m. Parking is $2.
Fair, lecture
The Ninth Clark County Gem and Mineral Fair continues until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Clark County Museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway, in Henderson. A lecture, "Ice Age Ground Sloths of Southern Nevada," by UNLV Geology professor Steve Rowland, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, followed by a book signing. Ranch legends
The Living History Program at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park presents a portrayal of Helen Stewart, the first postmaster and charter member of the Mesquite Club, also known as the "first lady of Las Vegas," at noon and 2 p.m. Willard George, a leader in the chinchilla industry, will be portrayed at noon and 2 p.m. Sunday.
