Three booked in Louisiana with possession of stolen slot machine tokens

Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 | 4:30 a.m.

State police started investigating last week after Benny Taylor, 24, of Marrero, tried to cash $100 tokens he said he won at a slot machine.

But surveillance video showed Taylor had not played and that he had cashed in tokens previously without playing, police said.

Taylor told authorities he got the tokens from Sharon Zardes, 23, the wife of slot machine technician Keith Zardes, 33. Taylor said he started cashing in the tokens in April and split the proceeds with Mrs. Zardes.

A search of the Zardes' home in Marrero turned up $4,300 in tokens. The three were booked with illegal possession of stolen things.
