Satre predicting special session on Louisiana tax

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas, which owns a major share of the New Orleans casino, says it is counting on a special legislative session to deal with its demand for a reduction in the casino's state gambling tax.
Chairman Phil Satre said Gov. Mike Foster is not ready to explore the casino's tax concerns until after the Nov. 7 election.
A special panel appointed by Mayor Marc Morial and Foster is studying the economic impact of the casino and is expected to issue a report in late November.
After that report comes out, Satre told analysts, "Then what I think you can expect is a series of legislative hearings before important committees in the state that deal with casino operations. Those hearings will occur in December, and possibly in January, which will lay the foundation for any discussion in a special session."
