Drinking, sleeping ban proposed
A proposed ordinance will make it illegal for people to drink alcohol or sleep at a bus stop.
The North Las Vegas ordinance, drafted after an ordinance adopted by Las Vegas in 1994, came about from complaints by residents and businesses that people were loitering, drinking, sleeping and littering at bus stop benches and shelters.
The ordinance, drafted at the North Las Vegas Police Department's request, targets people who have no intention of using the bus services for transportation.
It will be considered for final approval Nov. 1.
Repairs approved for Hartke Pool
North Las Vegas will spend $83,900 to repair a deteriorating pool deck at Hartke Pool.
The project also includes replacing skimmers and associated pool materials, installing a new diving board, guard chairs and other city equipment.
The project must be completed in 60 days.
The city previously allocated funding to renovate deteriorated decks on three city pools. The improvements were made before the summer swim season.
